Emergency Dentistry in Trenton

A cracked molar at dinner, a filling that falls out before work, a child who takes a spill at the park — dental problems rarely wait for a convenient opening in the schedule. When something goes wrong with your teeth, the questions come fast: Is this serious? Can it wait until Monday? Who can actually see me today? Our office at 22500 Allen Rd. in Woodhaven is a short drive for Trenton families, and we keep room in the day for same-day emergency visits so you aren't left guessing while the pain gets worse.

Dental emergencies cover a wide range of situations, and not all of them involve severe pain. We see Trenton patients for toothaches that throb or keep them up at night, chipped and fractured teeth, lost or broken crowns and bridges, fillings that come loose, broken or ill-fitting dentures, swelling and gum infections, wisdom teeth that flare up, and teeth knocked loose or out entirely after a fall or a sports collision. Sometimes the issue is simply a sharp edge cutting your tongue or a tooth that has become too sensitive to eat on.

A good rule of thumb: if you're in pain, if there's swelling, if bleeding won't stop, or if a tooth has been knocked out or moved, call us rather than waiting. Early treatment often means a simpler fix. A tooth that needs only a filling today can turn into a tooth that needs root canal therapy or an extraction later. Because our team includes five doctors — general dentists, a board-certified oral and maxillofacial pathologist, and a board-certified orthodontist — we can handle a broad range of urgent problems in one place, for patients of every age, from toddlers through adults, including children with special healthcare needs.

Your visit starts with listening. We want to know what happened, when it started, what makes it better or worse, and how you're feeling right now. From there we take any X-rays we need and perform a focused exam to find the true source of the problem — which isn't always the tooth that hurts most. Once we understand what's going on, we explain it in plain language and walk you through your options, including what we'd recommend doing today and what can reasonably be scheduled later.

Relief is the first goal. Depending on the diagnosis, same-day care might include a filling, a crown, root canal therapy on a front tooth, premolar, or molar, treatment for a gum infection, a simple or surgical extraction, or wisdom teeth removal. Our in-house dental lab is a real advantage in urgent situations: crowns, dentures, night guards and other appliances are made and adjusted on site, which makes same-day crowns, same-day dentures, relines and denture repairs possible without a long wait for an outside lab.

Comfort, Sedation, and Aftercare

Anxiety is normal in an emergency, and we take comfort seriously. Nitrous oxide sedation and IV sedation are available for patients who need them, and our comfort menu includes blankets, warm towels, neck pillows, headphones, Netflix and refreshments. Se habla español, so Spanish-speaking patients and their families can ask questions and get answers in the language they're most comfortable using.

Before you head back to Trenton, we'll go over aftercare in detail — what to eat and avoid, how to manage soreness, how to care for the area while it heals, and the warning signs that should prompt a call back to us. If your emergency visit was a first step, we'll schedule the follow-up that completes your care, whether that's a permanent crown, a dental implant, a bridge, a partial or complete denture, or a night guard or sports mouth guard to help prevent a repeat injury.

Paying for Emergency Care

Cost shouldn't be the reason you put off treating an infection or a broken tooth. We accept all major PPO insurance plans and offer a complimentary insurance benefits check so you know where you stand before treatment begins. We also welcome self-pay patients and accept cash, checks, Visa, Mastercard and American Express.

For larger treatment, CareCredit financing is available. And for Trenton patients without dental insurance, our in-house membership plan is $199 a year for ages 18 and up and $99 a year for ages 17 and younger. It includes:

  • Exams, X-rays, two cleanings and two fluoride treatments a year covered at 100%
  • 20% to 50% off other treatment
  • No annual maximum and no deductibles
  • No waiting period and no pre-authorizations
