A tooth that aches at night, a wisdom tooth pressing against its neighbor, a jaw that needs preparation before an implant — these are the moments when surgical care becomes the most direct path back to comfort. Oral surgery sounds intimidating, but in practice it covers a familiar range of procedures that we perform regularly at our Woodhaven office, often in a single visit, and almost always with a clearer, healthier mouth as the result.
Oral surgery refers to procedures that go beyond routine fillings or cleanings and involve working with the teeth, gums, and underlying bone. At 22500 Allen Rd., our team handles simple and surgical extractions, wisdom teeth removal, bone grafting, gum grafting, crown lengthening, and gum contouring, along with the placement of traditional and mini dental implants. Some of these treatments relieve pain and infection; others build the foundation for restorative work such as crowns, bridges, implant-supported dentures, or complete and partial dentures.
The people who benefit are more varied than many expect. A teenager may need third molars removed before they crowd a newly straightened smile. An adult with advanced gum disease may need grafting to protect exposed roots. Someone who lost a tooth years ago may need bone grafting before an implant can be anchored securely. A patient with a broken or badly decayed tooth may come in for an emergency visit and leave with the tooth removed and a plan for replacement already in motion. We see patients of all ages, we accept oral surgery patients without a referral, and we file these claims as a general practice.
Before anything is scheduled, we examine the area, take the images we need, and explain what we see in plain language. Our complimentary consultation is a good place to start if you are unsure whether surgery is necessary or whether a more conservative option exists. We will walk through what the procedure involves, how long healing typically takes, and how the treatment fits into your longer-term goals, whether that is orthodontics, a denture, or simply keeping the rest of your teeth healthy.
Comfort is a central part of that conversation. We offer nitrous oxide sedation and IV sedation dentistry for patients who feel anxious or who are having more involved work done, and our comfort menu includes blankets, warm towels, neck pillows, headphones, Netflix, and refreshments. Among our five doctors is Dr. Sophia Elmuradi, a board-certified oral and maxillofacial pathologist, and Dr. Ghannam, who earned his DDS from the University of Michigan in 1985. Se habla español, so Spanish-speaking patients can ask questions and give consent in the language they are most comfortable using.
Healing, Aftercare, and What Comes Next
Recovery depends on the procedure. A simple extraction usually settles down quickly, while surgical extractions, grafting, and implant placement ask for a bit more patience. We send every patient home with specific written instructions and a direct way to reach us if something does not feel right. Rest, soft foods, keeping the site clean, and avoiding anything that disturbs the healing tissue are the general themes, and we will tell you exactly which ones matter most in your case.
Follow-up matters just as much as the procedure itself. We check healing, remove sutures when needed, and coordinate the next phase of care. Because we have an on-site dental lab, crowns, dentures, night guards, relines, and repairs are made and adjusted here rather than shipped out — which often shortens the wait between surgery and a finished restoration. If a surgical visit is part of a larger plan involving braces, Invisalign, or implant-supported dentures, our general dentists and board-certified orthodontist, Dr. Ila Sayed, work from the same chart under one roof.
