Eating a sandwich without thinking about it. Laughing in a photo without covering your mouth. Talking through a long dinner with friends and never once reaching up to press a denture back into place. These are the everyday moments that bring people to our office in Woodhaven asking about implant-supported dentures — not because they want something fancy, but because they want their day to stop revolving around their teeth.
An implant-supported denture is a full or partial denture that locks onto dental implants placed in the jawbone, rather than resting on the gums and relying on suction or adhesive. The implants act as anchors. The denture clips, snaps, or is secured onto them, so the appliance stays where you put it while you chew, speak, and sleep.
This approach helps a wide range of people. Some patients have worn a conventional denture for years and are tired of adhesive, sore spots, and a lower denture that floats. Others are facing the loss of their remaining teeth and want to plan ahead so they never go through that trial-and-error period. Some have lost enough teeth that a partial denture no longer has strong neighbors to hold onto. We also see patients who simply want to protect their jawbone, since implants are placed into the bone and continue to engage it in a way that gum-borne dentures do not.
We offer both traditional and mini dental implants at Allenwood Dental, which gives us more than one path forward. Mini implants are narrower, and for certain patients they open the door to a secure denture when a more involved plan isn't the right fit. Which option makes sense depends on your bone, your health history, and what you want your day-to-day life to feel like.
The first honest question most people ask is whether they qualify. Candidacy comes down to a few things: the amount and quality of bone available to hold implants, the health of your gums, your overall medical history, and your goals. We evaluate all of this during a complimentary consultation, so you can get real answers before committing to anything.
If bone volume is limited, that isn't automatically the end of the conversation. We perform bone grafting in-house, which can rebuild a foundation over time. We also handle extractions — simple and surgical — and oral surgery here, with a board-certified oral and maxillofacial pathologist among our five doctors and no referral required to be seen. Keeping these steps under one roof means fewer offices, fewer handoffs, and a team that already knows your case.
Comfort is a real part of candidacy too. If anxiety or a sensitive gag reflex has kept you from treatment, we offer nitrous oxide and IV sedation, along with a comfort menu that includes blankets, warm towels, neck pillows, headphones, Netflix, and refreshments. Se habla español.
What Treatment and Aftercare Look Like
Our on-site dental lab shapes much of how we deliver this care. Instead of mailing work out and waiting, we fabricate and adjust dentures here — including same-day dentures, relines, and repairs. If a denture needs a small adjustment at your appointment, we can often take care of it that day rather than scheduling you back.
Healing after implant placement takes time, and the gums and bone settle as they heal. That means your denture may need periodic adjusting or relining to keep the fit snug — a normal part of the process, not a sign something went wrong. Day to day, aftercare is straightforward:
- Clean the denture and the implant attachments daily as we show you
- Keep up with regular cleanings and exams with our hygiene team
- Report any looseness, soreness, or clicking rather than waiting it out
- Follow our instructions closely during the initial healing period
Paying for Treatment
We accept all major PPO insurance plans and offer a complimentary insurance benefits check, so you'll know what your plan covers before treatment begins. We also welcome self-pay patients and accept cash, checks, Visa, Mastercard, and American Express.
For patients without insurance, our in-house membership plan is $199 a year for adults and $99 for ages 17 and younger. It covers exams, X-rays, two cleanings, and two fluoride treatments a year at 100%, with 20% to 50% off other treatment — no annual maximum, no deductibles, no waiting period, and no pre-authorizations. CareCredit financing is also available for spreading payments over time.
