Crowded front teeth, a bite that wears molars unevenly, a gap you have covered in photos for years — these are the everyday reasons people in Woodhaven, Trenton, Riverview and Flat Rock ask us about straightening their teeth. Orthodontics (General) is the part of dentistry that moves teeth and corrects bites, and at our office on Allen Rd. it is handled by Dr. Ila Sayed, our board-certified orthodontist, working alongside our general dentists. Because we treat children and adults under one roof, orthodontic care fits into the same schedule as your cleanings, fillings and checkups.
General orthodontics covers the full range of tooth movement: closing spaces, relieving crowding, correcting overbites, underbites, crossbites and open bites, and aligning teeth so they meet evenly when you chew. We offer traditional braces with metal brackets and wires, along with clear aligners, including Invisalign. Both move teeth with steady, controlled pressure; the difference is mostly in appearance, how the appliance is worn, and which kinds of movement each handles best for your particular case.
Straight teeth are easier to brush and floss, which matters for long-term gum health, and a balanced bite spreads chewing forces more evenly. We also see patients who want orthodontics as a first step before other work — bonding, veneers or a crown often look and function better once the teeth are in the right position. Our hygienist and general dentists stay involved throughout so your cleanings and preventive care continue on schedule.
We treat both children and adults, and our pediatric side sees patients from age 1 through the teen years, including children with special healthcare needs. For younger patients, we watch how permanent teeth come in and how the jaws are developing, so timing conversations happen naturally during regular exams rather than years too late. For adults, there is no upper age limit on tooth movement — what matters is healthy gums and sound teeth before treatment starts.
A few situations we see often:
- Teens and adults who want clear aligners for a more discreet option during school or work
- Patients who started braces elsewhere and need to continue — we accept orthodontic transfer patients
- Former orthodontic patients who need a replacement retainer after treatment somewhere else
- Adults with crowding or spacing who are also considering whitening, bonding or veneers
- Families who want braces, cleanings and pediatric visits handled at one office
Treatment begins with a complimentary consultation. We look at your teeth, bite and gums, discuss what bothers you, and explain which approach fits — braces, aligners, or in some cases addressing another dental need first. You will know the plan before committing to anything.
Aftercare and keeping your results
Teeth have memory. After braces come off or aligner treatment finishes, a retainer holds everything in the new position while the surrounding bone and ligaments settle. Wearing it as directed is the single biggest factor in whether your results last, and it is a lifelong habit, not a few-month one. We make retainers for our own patients and also provide retainers for patients treated elsewhere — if yours cracked, warped in a hot car or disappeared years ago, we can help.
Our on-site dental lab is a real advantage here. Retainers, night guards and sports guards are made and adjusted in the building, so repairs and relines do not mean waiting weeks for an outside lab. If you grind your teeth, a night guard protects both your enamel and your finished orthodontic result. During treatment, keep up with cleanings and daily brushing and flossing — braces and aligners both create spots where plaque likes to hide, and our hygienist will show you how to stay ahead of it.
Paying for orthodontic treatment
We accept all major PPO insurance plans and file orthodontic claims as a General Practitioner. We will run a complimentary benefits check so you know what your plan covers before you decide. We also welcome self-pay patients and accept cash, checks, Visa, Mastercard and American Express.
For patients spreading payments out, we offer CareCredit financing. If you do not have dental insurance, our in-house membership plan is $199 a year for ages 18 and up and $99 a year for ages 17 and under, with no annual maximum, no deductible, no waiting period and no pre-authorizations. It covers exams, X-rays, two cleanings and two fluoride treatments a year at 100%, plus 20% to 50% off other treatment.
