Preventive Dentistry in Flat Rock

If it's been a while since your last cleaning, or you're trying to find one office that can see every member of your family on the same afternoon, you're in good company. Many of the Flat Rock patients we meet come in after a busy stretch of work, school and sports schedules, wondering whether they've fallen behind. The honest answer is usually reassuring: small problems caught early are far easier to handle than big ones caught late. That's the whole idea behind preventive care, and it's the foundation of what we do at our office at 22500 Allen Rd. in Woodhaven, a short drive for families throughout Flat Rock.
Preventive dentistry is the ongoing care that keeps your teeth and gums healthy so you need less repair work over time. In practice, it means routine dental exams, professional dental cleanings, X-rays, fluoride treatment, dental sealants, and oral cancer screening — plus the guidance that helps you keep up good habits between visits. It also includes protective appliances like night guards for grinding and sports guards for athletes, both of which we can make and adjust in our on-site dental lab.
For Flat Rock families, the appeal is simple: one practice, all ages, one familiar place. We see patients from age 1 through adulthood, and we treat children with special healthcare needs. Our team of five doctors includes general dentists and a board-certified orthodontist, so if a developing bite needs attention, that conversation can happen during the same checkup rather than requiring a separate referral elsewhere.
Almost everyone is a candidate. Children benefit from sealants and fluoride while their permanent molars are coming in; teenagers juggling braces or clear aligners need extra cleaning support; adults benefit from regular screenings and early detection of decay; and older patients with crowns, bridges, implants or dentures need consistent monitoring to keep that work in good shape.
Preventive care is especially important if you've noticed warning signs. Bleeding gums, persistent bad breath, sensitivity to hot or cold, a tooth that aches when you bite, or gums that look like they're pulling back all deserve a professional look. If gum disease is present, we offer gum disease treatment, including scaling and root planing and ongoing periodontal maintenance. And if something flares up suddenly, we offer emergency dental appointments and same-day visits, so a Flat Rock patient with a painful tooth doesn't have to wait it out.
What a Preventive Visit Looks Like
A typical appointment starts with a review of your health history and any concerns you've noticed since your last visit. We take X-rays as needed, then a hygienist cleans away plaque and hardened tartar, polishes the teeth, and checks the health of your gums. The dentist examines each tooth and any existing dental work, performs an oral cancer screening, and talks through anything worth watching.
Here's what you can generally expect to be part of preventive care with us:
- A thorough exam and X-rays to spot decay, wear or bone changes early
- A professional cleaning and polish, with gum health measurements
- Fluoride treatment to strengthen enamel, and sealants for children's molars
- An oral cancer screening at your checkup
- A custom night guard or sports guard when grinding or athletics call for one
- A plan for anything found, from a simple filling to a crown made in our lab
Comfort matters here. Our comfort menu includes blankets, warm towels, neck pillows, headphones, Netflix and refreshments, and nitrous oxide is available for patients who feel anxious. Se habla español.
Aftercare and Staying on Track
Most people leave a cleaning feeling fine and can eat normally right away. If you've had fluoride, we'll let you know how long to wait before eating or drinking. After deeper gum treatment, mild tenderness for a day or two is common, and we'll give you specific home-care instructions.
Between visits, the routine carries the load: brushing twice daily, cleaning between the teeth, and wearing your night guard or retainer as directed. Most patients do well with two cleanings a year; if you're managing gum disease, we may recommend periodontal maintenance more often. We'll help you schedule ahead so your next visit fits your family's calendar.
Insurance, Membership and Payment
We accept all major PPO insurance plans and are happy to run a complimentary benefits check before you commit to anything. We also welcome self-pay patients and accept cash, checks, Visa, Mastercard and American Express.
If you don't have dental insurance, our in-house membership plan is $199 a year for adults and $99 a year for ages 17 and younger. It covers exams, X-rays, two cleanings and two fluoride treatments a year at 100%, with 20% to 50% off other treatment — no annual maximum, no deductibles, no waiting period and no pre-authorizations. CareCredit financing is available for larger treatment, and consultations are complimentary. If you're in Flat Rock and ready to get back on schedule, we'd be glad to see you.
