Emergency Dentistry in Flat Rock

A cracked molar at dinner, a filling that falls out mid-workday, a child who takes a fall at the park and chips a front tooth — dental emergencies rarely arrive at a convenient hour, and they almost never improve on their own. When something hurts, bleeds, or breaks, what you need is a phone number that leads to an actual appointment, not a waiting list. We keep room in our schedule for same-day emergency visits, and Flat Rock patients are welcome whether we've seen you for years or you're calling us for the very first time.
A dental emergency is any problem that needs prompt attention to stop pain, control infection, or save a tooth. The most common calls we take involve severe or throbbing toothaches, swelling in the face or gums, a tooth that has been knocked loose or knocked out entirely, a broken or badly chipped tooth, a lost crown or filling that leaves the tooth sharp and sensitive, a denture that cracked or no longer fits, or bleeding that won't settle down after an injury. Pain that keeps you up at night or wakes you with pressure is worth a call — that pattern often points to an infected nerve, which is treatable with root canal therapy but tends to worsen the longer it waits.
Not every urgent problem is dramatic. A tooth that only hurts with cold, a gum area that feels tender around a wisdom tooth, or a sore spot from a sharp edge still deserves a look before it turns into something bigger. If you're in Flat Rock and you're unsure whether what you're feeling counts, call us and describe it. We would rather tell you it can wait until a regular visit than have you tough it out through a weekend.
An emergency visit starts with getting you comfortable and getting a clear picture of what's happening. We'll take X-rays and examine the tooth and surrounding tissue to find the actual source — sometimes the tooth that hurts isn't the tooth that's broken. From there we explain what we're seeing in plain language, lay out the options, and tell you what we can take care of today versus what's better handled at a follow-up.
Much of the time, we can treat the problem in the same appointment. Depending on what we find, that may mean a filling, a crown, root canal therapy on a front tooth, premolar, or molar, a simple or surgical extraction, or wisdom teeth removal. Our in-house dental lab is a real advantage in urgent situations: crowns, dentures, night guards, relines, and repairs are made and adjusted on site, so a broken denture or a tooth needing a crown often doesn't mean weeks without a working smile. For patients who feel anxious, we offer nitrous oxide sedation and IV sedation dentistry, and our comfort menu — blankets, warm towels, neck pillows, headphones, Netflix, and refreshments — is available during emergency visits too.
Care for Every Age in the Family
Our five doctors include general dentists and a board-certified orthodontist, and we see patients of all ages, so a Flat Rock family doesn't need separate offices for separate emergencies. We treat children from age one through the teen years, including children with special healthcare needs, and we handle pediatric urgent care such as knocked-out or chipped baby and permanent teeth. Orthodontic patients with a poking wire or a loose bracket are covered as well, and we accept transfer patients and provide retainers for people treated elsewhere.
Aftercare depends on what was done. We send you home with specific instructions — how to manage soreness, what to eat and avoid, how to keep an extraction site clean, and what warning signs mean you should call us back. If a temporary restoration or stitches are involved, we'll schedule the follow-up before you leave. When grinding or clenching contributed to a cracked tooth, we may recommend a custom night guard, which our lab makes in-house.
Paying for Urgent Care Without the Guesswork
We accept all major PPO insurance plans and offer a complimentary insurance benefits check, so you know what's covered before treatment begins. We also welcome self-pay patients and accept cash, checks, Visa, Mastercard, and American Express.
If you don't have dental insurance, two options help. CareCredit financing lets you spread treatment costs over time, and our in-house membership plan is $199 a year for ages 18 and up, $99 a year for ages 17 and under. Membership includes:
- Exams, X-rays, two cleanings, and two fluoride treatments a year at 100%
- 20% to 50% off other treatment
- No annual maximum, no deductibles, no waiting period, no pre-authorizations
We also offer complimentary consultations, and se habla español. Our office is at 22500 Allen Rd. in Woodhaven — call us when something goes wrong, and we'll get you seen.
