Pediatric Dentistry in Flat Rock

Getting a child to the dentist on a school night shouldn't feel like a production. For Flat Rock families, that usually means finding an office close enough for a quick after-school visit, friendly enough that a nervous six-year-old walks back out smiling, and organized enough to see siblings of different ages without three separate trips. That's the kind of children's care we provide every day at our office at 22500 Allen Rd. in Woodhaven, just a short drive for Flat Rock parents.

Pediatric dentistry is dental care shaped around growing mouths. Baby teeth hold space for permanent teeth, guide speech, and make chewing comfortable, so caring for them well sets up everything that follows. We see children from age 1 through the teen years, which means we can start with a simple lap exam for a toddler and continue right through the braces years and wisdom teeth conversations.

Our first visits are intentionally low-pressure. We count teeth, check how the jaw and bite are developing, look for early decay between teeth and in the grooves of molars, and talk with parents about brushing, bottles, pacifiers, thumb-sucking and snacking habits. A dental hygienist on staff handles gentle cleanings, and fluoride treatment helps strengthen enamel that's still maturing. For Flat Rock kids who play fall and spring sports, we also make custom sports mouth guards.

Nearly every child is a candidate for preventive care, and the earlier it starts, the easier it tends to be. We recommend a first visit around a child's first birthday or the arrival of the first tooth. After that, most children do well with two checkups and cleanings a year, which fits neatly around the Flat Rock school calendar and keeps small problems from becoming big ones.

We also treat children with special healthcare needs, and we welcome parents to tell us ahead of time what helps their child feel safe: a favorite blanket, extra time, quieter explanations, or a parent in the room throughout. For children who need help relaxing during treatment, we offer nitrous oxide sedation, and IV sedation is available in our practice for appropriate cases. Our comfort menu — blankets, warm towels, neck pillows, headphones, Netflix and refreshments — is just as popular with kids as it is with adults. Se habla español.

What a Visit Looks Like, Start to Finish

A typical appointment begins with a cleaning and a thorough exam, including X-rays when they're needed to see between teeth or track developing permanent teeth. If everything looks healthy, we finish with fluoride and talk through anything worth watching before the next visit. When we spot a cavity, we explain what we see in plain language and schedule treatment at a time that works for your family.

Because we're a multi-doctor general practice treating all ages, most of what a child needs can be handled under one roof. That includes:

  • Dental sealants to protect the deep grooves of newly erupted molars
  • Tooth-colored composite fillings for cavities
  • Fluoride treatments and preventive cleanings
  • Simple and surgical extractions, including wisdom teeth removal
  • Braces, Invisalign and clear aligners with our board-certified orthodontist, Dr. Ila Sayed
  • Custom sports and night guards, made in our on-site dental lab
  • Same-day emergency appointments for a knocked-out tooth, a broken tooth or a toothache

Our in-house lab also means appliances and guards can be made and adjusted here rather than shipped out, which shortens the wait for Flat Rock families.

Aftercare and Keeping Up Good Habits at Home

After a cleaning and fluoride, kids can usually go right back to their day; we'll let you know if we want to wait a bit before eating. After a filling or an extraction, we send parents home with specific instructions — soft foods for a stretch, how to manage soreness, what to watch for, and how to reach us if anything feels off. Numbness from a local anesthetic takes time to wear off, so we remind kids not to bite their cheek or lip.

Day to day, the basics still win: brushing twice with fluoride toothpaste, flossing where teeth touch, limiting sipping on juice and sports drinks, and keeping those two checkups a year. We'd rather coach your family through habits than treat preventable decay.

Insurance, Membership and Payment Options

We accept all major PPO insurance plans and file pediatric claims as a General Practitioner. We're glad to run a complimentary benefits check before treatment so you know what's covered.

For families without insurance, our in-house membership plan is $99 a year for ages 17 and younger and $199 for adults, with exams, X-rays, two cleanings and two fluoride treatments covered at 100%, plus 20% to 50% off other treatment. There are no deductibles, no waiting periods and no annual maximum. We also offer CareCredit financing, free consultations, and accept cash, checks, Visa, Mastercard and American Express.
